A Plot and a Half

Private Client
Under Construction

This renovation project is designed for a community organizer and leader in Syracuse, NY. The space will serve as a space for planning, organizing, and fostering collaboration among local residents, activists, and city leaders, as well as the primary home for the client.

The existing house was laid out with very little attention given to the living spaces. The bedrooms are small and unusable. We flipped the organization giving more space to the bedrooms and created a galley kitchen with a continuous run from the front to the back of the house. We also adjusted the entry so visitors enter into the community room which is semi-public, allowing for the rest of the home to remain private for the owner.

The house was initially purchased from the Greater Syracuse Land Bank, for a modest sum of money in order to revitalize the disinvested neighborhood. A greater ambition of the project is to design multiple properties with the client and to form the Syracuse Community Land Trust.
