NO OFFICE is a Syracuse, New York-based design practice for architecture and urbanism founded and led by Nimet Anwar and Omar Ali. NO OFFICE is licensed to practice architecture in Illinois and Texas.
Nimet Anwar, RA (b. Toronto, ON, Canada) is an architect and Assistant Teaching Professor at Syracuse University, School of Architecture. Prior to Syracuse, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Tulane School of Architecture. She has previously worked at Studio Gang Architects in Chicago where she contributed to a variety of projects across the country. Nimet holds a Master of Architecture from Rice University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington. While attending Rice University, she received the H. Russell Pitman Graduate Fellowship in Architecture to travel throughout South Africa to research open-pit mines and their adaptive reuse. She has previously taught design studios and design communication courses at the University of Texas at Arlington, and continues to be engaged with the school.
Omar Ali (b. Dallas, TX) is a designer, educator, and Assistant Professor at Syracuse University, School of Architecture. Prior to Syracuse, he was the inaugural Tulane Architecture and Urbanism Fellow for 2021-23 at Tulane School of Architecture. Omar has practiced architecture and urban design at UrbanLab in Chicago, MOS Architects in New York City, and John McMorrough / studioAPT in Ann Arbor. His work has been written about in Metropolis Magazine, shown at a83 Gallery in New York City and Space p11 in Chicago, and is published in Topos Magazine 117, curated by West 8. Omar's work centers the Global South by foregrounding non-western and vernacular housing and spatial typologies. His research seminars place these case studies in dialogue with contemporary and canonical works to facilitate discussions around collectivity and domestic space. Omar holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan, Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning and a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Architectural History from the University of Texas at Arlington.
